Organization Overview

Banner Neighborhoods started in 1982 as a small neighborhood project helping senior homeowners on a fixed income maintain their homes and live independently in their neighborhood. Over the years, Banner has grown to become an umbrella organization for the neighborhood associations within our boundaries. Responding to the changing needs in the neighborhood, we have added programs incrementally through the years and have developed strategic partnerships and collaborations that are consistent with our mission.

Banner Neighborhoods is a community-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting residents in their efforts to enhance the quality of life throughout East and Southeast Baltimore. We offer a wide variety of programs designed to strengthen the community, ranging from youth activities, to senior home maintenance, to beautification projects.

Position Description

The Coordinator will oversee Banner’s youth (15 – 21 years of age) workforce development programs. Banner presently manages two workforce programs for older youth and is the lead facilitator of the Southeast Youth Jobs Collaborative Summer Employment Program. The Southeast Youth Jobs Collaborative (SEYC) is a group of nine organizations, including the Southeast CDC, Banner Neighborhoods, Creative Alliance, Friends of Patterson Park, Living Classrooms Foundation, Patterson Park Audubon Center, Breath of God Church, Patterson Park Public Charter School, Baltimore Star Project and The Intersection.

The essential functions are:

Program Management:

  • Recruit and secure participants for the youth workforce development programs
  • Identify and coordinate external resources (e.g., speakers, field trips, worksite visits, in-kind contributions) and contractors to provide support and enrichment for the programs
  • Ensure that programs meet deliverables as described through work plans and contractual agreements with funders and partners
  • Assist in the research and writing of program-related grant proposals
  • Collect and analyze data for reporting and to evaluate program performance
  • Provide supervision to interns, as needed
  • Write and update program participants’ success stories
  • Post positive stories about program successes on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram

Job Opportunity Development

  • Connect qualified youth to employers
  • Participate in industry workforce network groups
  • Collaborate with industry and workforce training partners to improve access to and evaluation of qualified youth candidates

Partnership Building:

  • Facilitate and promote information sharing among community stakeholders, business and nonprofit partners, and providers
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with business, government, and educational institution leaders
  • Attend and represent organization in meetings, lectures, seminars, and presentations related to program development and related areas of responsibility as needed

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum BA/BS
  • Experience in education settings, youth programming, workforce development
  • Familiar with Baltimore City Public Schools, city service agencies, area non-profit agencies, and youth serving programs
  • Car and valid driver license required

  • Show above average computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office software and programs
